Outreach Activities
Key Outreach Activities by RARI Gangtok
Tribal Health Care Research Programme (THCRP): Providing Ayurvedic health services, check‑ups, and awareness to tribal populations in Sikkim. The programme also documents local traditional health/folk‑medicine practices (folklore health claims) for research.
Ayurvedic Mobile Health Care Programme (AMHCP) under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP): Delivering doorstep Ayurvedic medical aid to Scheduled Caste communities — including health check‑ups, demographic & lifestyle surveys, disease‑prevalence studies, and counselling on hygiene, preventive health, and Ayurvedic lifestyle (diet/routine).
Extension through Ayurveda Health Centres (AHCs): Operating sub‑centres in districts of Sikkim (West, South, North) — offering OPD services, basic health checkups, counseling/awareness, hygiene & preventive‑health education, and free Ayurvedic treatment to communities.
Health Camps & Community Awareness Programmes: Organizing outreach tours and camps under SCSP / THCRP to reach underserved or marginalized areas — providing consultations, Ayurvedic treatments, laboratory investigations, and raising awareness about preventive health, hygiene, and Ayurveda lifestyle.
Healthcare Services via OPD & Geriatric Clinic: Through its main facility and outreach arms, RARI provides outpatient services, geriatric care (special clinics for elderly), subsidized diagnostics and therapies, Panchakarma treatments, and chronic / lifestyle‑disease management across populations.
Medicinal‑Plant Surveys & Botanical Outreach: Under its Survey of Medicinal Plant Unit (SMPU), RARI conducts field surveys across Sikkim (and neighbouring regions) to catalogue medicinal plants, preserve plant‑based drug resources, and promote sustainable, community‑based medicinal‑plant cultivation — benefiting local communities and traditional practitioners.
